After the death of Moses the servant of the Lord, the Lord said to Joshua son of Nun, Moses’ aide: “Moses my servant is dead. Now then, you and all these people, get ready to cross the Jordan River into the land I am about to give to them—to the Israelites.  No one will be able to stand against you all the days of your life. As I was with Moses, so I will be with you; I will never leave you nor forsake you.

(Joshua 1:1,2,5)

It's Not Over

We’ve started our summer “tour” of family, doctors, churches we’ve served, and friends we’ve made over the last 10 years.  Part of the news we get to share this summer is that we’ve been assigned to New Orleans for another year.  As I sat in a worship service this weekend getting ready to share, I didn’t really have any “wow” items to testify about like I have had in previous years.  I had some encouraging items, but nothing that would really grab you.  Shortly before it was my turn, the worship leader shared a personal story where God reminded him that “it’s not over.”  That spoke to me.

You see, I’ve wrestled with what seems to be lack of impact this year.  We’ve put in lots of energy, but the results have been different.  I’ve wondered to the Lord about what’s next (and is it even here).  We’ve all probably felt like Joshua after Moses’ death.  Now what are we gonna do?  We each have those moments in our lives where we just need to wonder that very question.  But God’s words to him, to me, and to you are very clear.  He says, “I will be with you; I will never leave you nor forsake you.”  Go God!

Our prayer & praise items include:

1)     Praise for another year in New Orleans.  God still wants to do something more here.  The Prayer & Planning team will go away on a retreat in September.  Pray for their collective discernment of the will of God.

2)     Pray for our ongoing role with the Greater New Orleans Pastors Coalition (GNOPC) & the new partnership I have with the St. Bernard Pastors Coalition (STBPC) in the neighboring county.  They both are blessed for your support so that we can serve them for free.

3)     Praise for straight A’s for all three of our boys.  Daniel didn’t technically get A’s in Kindergarten, but he did receive the highest marks available.  Pray for their continued growth.

a)     If you want to see some latest pictures of them and the rap video that Josiah created for Barb’s birthday, go to www.setfreeministry.org/whoweare/missionaries.html

4)     Pray for our summer travels.  We continue to try to balance how busy that trip can become.  It’s always good to see everyone, but our schedules can be quickly filled.  Pray for God’s direction as we connect and travel.  You all are such a blessing to us.

5)     Pray for our ongoing role in our neighborhood.  We still have the kids gather on our porch and in our driveway.   We’ve also been playing more basketball lately at the neighborhood courts.  We have lots of opportunities to be an impact!

6)     Pray for ongoing unity among the Church in Greater New Orleans, including St. Bernard Parish.  May the hearts of the Pastors and the people continue to grow closer together and may we accomplish great things for the Kingdom.
